Lead Legal Counsel

We are seeking an experienced Lead Legal Counsel for a top multinational in the tobacco industry.

This role involves providing top-notch legal advice and managing risks in the APMEA North region. You'll focus on corporate governance and compliance, ensuring everything aligns with global standards. You'll also lead strategic legal initiatives and work closely with senior leaders on key projects.

Key Responsibilities:

- Improve corporate governance processes for the Japanese branch, handling secretarial duties.
- Provide legal advice in financial meetings.
- Work with the finance team on processes and twice-yearly risk reviews.
- Lead the Delivery with Integrity program, advising on risks in Japan and nearby areas.
- Create and enforce policies and procedures, managing changes effectively.
- Run training sessions to encourage compliance and ethical behavior.
- Work with global teams to manage compliance risks.
- Advise stakeholders on third-party risk management.
- Educate stakeholders on legal issues to align with business goals.
- Promote diversity and inclusion within the organization.

Required Experience & Skills:

- Qualified lawyer with strong experience in compliance and corporate governance.
- Proven ability to handle complex legal issues independently.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, able to influence senior management.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships at all levels.
- Fluent in English; Japanese language skills are a plus but not required.
- Experience with cross-border legal issues and compliance in various regions.
- Strong project management skills and proactive problem-solving abilities.
