AML Director

We are looking for an experienced Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Director to join our client's Compliance team in Tokyo. This role is important for directing AML strategies and ensuring compliance with regulations in the payments and credit card industry. You will have the chance to shape AML initiatives and work with key stakeholders to meet regulatory standards.

Responsibilities:

  • - Lead the development and improvement of the AML compliance framework to meet local and international regulations.
  • - Manage AML monitoring and testing to identify and reduce money laundering and terrorist financing risks.
  • - Advise internal teams on AML obligations and strategies to reduce risks.
  • - Oversee timely regulatory reporting, including suspicious activity reports.
  • - Keep updated on AML and financial crime compliance regulations and provide insights to stakeholders.
  • - Represent the organization in discussions with regulators and industry groups on AML compliance.
  • - Lead AML audits and assessments to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • - Provide expertise on Japan's regulatory requirements in the payments and credit card sector.
  • - Work with business and risk management teams to identify and manage compliance risks.
  • - Prepare detailed compliance reports for senior management.
  • - Mentor and lead a team of AML professionals, promoting a culture of compliance and improvement.
  • - Share knowledge across the organization to enhance AML awareness and skills.


Skills and Experience:

  • - Bachelor's degree in Law, Business, Finance, or a related field. AML certification (e.g., CAMS, ICA) preferred.
  • - At least 7 years of experience in AML compliance, preferably in financial services or a regulatory body.
  • - Strong knowledge of AML regulatory frameworks, including Japan-specific requirements.
  • - Proven experience managing regulatory relationships and leading AML audits.
  • - Strong analytical skills to translate complex regulations into practical actions.
  • - Experience in building and leading high-performing teams.
  • - Excellent communication skills for interacting with stakeholders at all levels.
